The global crisis of violence against land and environmental defenders reached another grim milestone in 2025, according to the latest annual investigation from advocacy organization Global Witness. The report confirms that Latin America has retained its unenviable title as the world’s most dangerous region for climate and land rights activists, holding this status every year since Global Witness began publishing its annual tracking data in 2012.
