NFL superstar Travis Kelce has opened up for the first time about his star-studded private wedding to global pop icon Taylor Swift, describing the July 3 ceremony at New York’s iconic Madison Square Garden as the most memorable night of his life. Speaking to reporters this Wednesday at the Kansas City Chiefs’ preseason training camp in Missouri, the three-time Super Bowl champion shared the first public details of the nuptials, which were officiated by beloved comedic actor Adam Sandler.
Kelce expressed that exchanging vows at the legendary Manhattan arena, widely considered the mecca of professional sports venues, fulfilled a lifelong childhood dream for him. “It was kind of cool to live out my childhood dream of being in that venue, the mecca of all sports venues, being able to get married there,” he told assembled media. He thanked all guests for attending, calling the celebration “a crazy night” that exceeded every one of his expectations.
The high-profile couple made a deliberate choice to keep the vast majority of their wedding details out of the public eye, and no official photos from the indoor stadium ceremony have been released to date. Despite the strict privacy measures, multiple reports confirmed that a roster of A-list celebrities from across entertainment, sports and fashion attended the event, including acclaimed actors Hugh Grant and Jason Sudeikis, breakout singer Benson Boone, and supermodel Gigi Hadid.
Kelce also referenced a prior personal connection to Madison Square Garden that made the venue extra meaningful. Last year, when the New York Knicks made a historic run to their first NBA championship in nearly 60 years, Kelce was unable to attend a playoff game due to mandatory Chiefs minicamp commitments. It was Swift who took his spot, sitting courtside for the stunning Game 4 Finals comeback win over the San Antonio Spurs, where the Knicks pulled off a one-point 107-106 upset. This marked Kelce’s first time referring to Swift as his wife in a public setting.
The tight end also extended gratitude to MSG leadership for accommodating their request for an intimate, private event. “I can’t thank the owners of MSG enough for allowing us to get the opportunity to do that, knowing that we wanted a private event and everything, and it was perfect,” he said.
