A security alert prompted the immediate evacuation of an IndiGo aircraft at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport on Saturday morning after crew members discovered a written bomb threat aboard the flight. The incident occurred during passenger boarding procedures for Flight 6E3074, which was scheduled to depart for Shillong at 9:15 AM IST.
Airport authorities confirmed that cabin crew located a handwritten note inside one of the aircraft’s lavatories containing explicit threats regarding an explosive device onboard. Following established security protocols, all passengers were swiftly evacuated from the aircraft as airport security forces initiated emergency procedures.
The affected aircraft was immediately relocated to an isolated bay where comprehensive security inspections were conducted by specialized bomb detection units. Kolkata Airport Director coordinated the response effort, which involved multiple security agencies and followed standardized protocols for threat assessment.
This incident marks the second similar security scare for IndiGo within recent weeks. On January 23, another IndiGo flight (6E2608) operating from Delhi to Pune received a comparable bomb threat via handwritten note discovered in the aircraft’s lavatory. In that previous incident, the aircraft landed safely at Pune Airport and underwent thorough security screening that ultimately cleared the plane for continued operations after no suspicious materials were found.
Aviation security experts emphasize that such threats, while typically hoaxes, trigger mandatory full-scale security responses in accordance with international aviation security standards. The Civil Aviation Authority has reiterated that all threats are treated with maximum seriousness regardless of their eventual verification status.
As of the latest reports, security sweeps of the Kolkata aircraft are ongoing, with officials awaiting formal clearance from the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad before releasing the aircraft back to service. No injuries or disruptions to other airport operations have been reported.
