Following its successful debut, the Snow League — the professional halfpipe competition circuit founded by Olympic gold medalist Shaun White after his retirement from competitive snowsports — has announced a multi-event extension of its broadcast partnership with NBC Sports. The new agreement will see NBC Sports deliver coverage of all four of the circuit’s 2024-2025 season events to audiences across linear and streaming platforms.
The upcoming season is scheduled to kick off on September 19 with an opening competition in Cardrona, New Zealand, marking the first stop of the year for top snowboarders and freeskiers from around the globe. Following the season opener, the circuit will add a brand-new stop in Park City, Utah, a mountain resort selected to host the 2034 Winter Olympic Games. Notably, the Park City event will bring a 22-foot halfpipe back to the venue for the first time since it hosted the FIS Snowboard and Freeski World Championships in 2019, ending a five-year gap for elite halfpipe competition at the site.
Under the terms of the renewed partnership, NBC will broadcast encore replays of all four events on its linear cable and broadcast networks, while exclusive live coverage will be available to viewers via NBCUniversal’s Peacock streaming service and the Snow League’s official YouTube channel, expanding access for both traditional sports audiences and digital-native fans.
White launched the Snow League after retiring from competitive halfpipe riding to create a new season-long competition structure for both snowboarders and freeskiers. Unlike single-event elite competitions, the circuit awards both individual event titles and an overall season-long championship, creating more consistent competition opportunities for top athletes. In its inaugural season, the league offered a total prize purse of $2.2 million, crowning four overall champions: Sena Tomita and Yuto Totsuka of Japan in men’s and women’s snowboarding, and Eileen Gu and Luke Harrold in men’s and women’s freeskiing.
This season’s opening event in New Zealand will deviate from the standard competition format, operating as a unique team-based competition with a draft-style selection process. Unlike other stops on the circuit, the team contest will not count toward athletes’ overall season-long standings. Adding an innovative creative twist to the opening weekend, tournament seeding for the team event will not be determined by prior competition results. Instead, teams will be ranked based on their performance in a separate challenge, where they create original behind-the-scenes content in the lead-up to the contest, rewarding both athletic talent and digital creativity.
