On Tuesday, a landmark people-to-people exchange event between China and the United States, the 2026 China-US Youth Pickleball Friendship Tournament, was officially held at the University of International Business and Economics in the Chinese capital, Beijing. The on-court competition brought together two distinct groups of young participants: student members of a study tour delegation originating from Iowa, the United States, and teenage athletes from Shijiazhuang Foreign Language School, located in North China’s Hebei Province.
Organizers of the friendly competition note that the event was designed around a far more ambitious goal than simply crowning a winning team. By bringing young people from the two countries together through the fast-growing, accessible sport of pickleball, the tournament seeks to build a new, informal bridge for cross-cultural connection and dialogue.
