Michael B. Jordan’s production company Outlier Society, in partnership with Amazon Studios, is developing a television adaptation of Rebecca Yarros’ blockbuster fantasy novel “Fourth Wing,” with the Oscar-nominated actor emphasizing an unconventional casting strategy for the beloved series.
During an interview at the Academy Awards luncheon in Los Angeles, Jordan revealed his vision for bringing Yarros’ Empyrean literary universe to screen. The production will avoid obvious casting choices in favor of blending emerging talent with established actors, creating what Jordan describes as “a nice balance where casting won’t be distracting” to viewers’ immersion in the fantasy world.
The adaptation will translate the novel’s expansive narrative involving dragons, magical warfare, and romantic elements that have captivated millions of readers worldwide. Jordan specifically addressed potential concerns about the fantasy genre, assuring that the production would avoid cheesiness while maintaining the integrity of the source material.
“It allows people to fall in love with the characters that they have imagined in their head without any baggage,” Jordan explained regarding the casting philosophy. “It ain’t no obvious choices. I think it’s going to be something that feels honest.”
The project emerges as Jordan expands his professional footprint beyond acting into producing and directing. His company Outlier Society secured adaptation rights to Yarros’ bestselling literary property, which has sold millions of copies across 40 languages globally. The book series currently spans three installations with two additional volumes anticipated.
When questioned about potentially appearing in the adaptation himself, Jordan remained coy, repeatedly stating “I don’t know” while suggesting the extensive character roster would provide numerous casting opportunities.
The announcement comes as Jordan celebrates his Academy Award nomination for Best Actor in the record-breaking horror film “Sinners,” which received 16 Oscar nominations—the most in Oscars history. The actor’s production credits continue to expand following his directorial debut with “Creed III” in 2023 and his upcoming heist film remake “The Thomas Crown Affair.”
