A fatal road traffic incident has claimed the life of a young boy after he was hit by a car in County Mayo, located in the Republic of Ireland, local law enforcement has confirmed.
The tragic collision unfolded shortly before midday on Sunday morning along the N59 route at Eskeragh, a district within Crossmolina close to the town of Ballina. Members of An Garda Síochána, Ireland’s national police service, confirmed they received an emergency alert reporting the incident at approximately 11:20 a.m. local time.
Responding officers arrived at the scene quickly, but the boy was pronounced dead on site due to the severity of his injuries. Following standard procedure for fatal road collisions, the victim’s remains have been transferred to the mortuary at Mayo University Hospital, and Ireland’s coroner service has been formally notified of the death.
In a public appeal issued after the incident, Gardaí are calling on any members of the public who witnessed the collision, or who were driving along the N59 in the Eskeragh area around the time of the incident and may have dashcam footage relevant to the investigation, to contact them. Investigators are working to establish the full circumstances of what led to the collision, and any information from witnesses will help build a complete picture of the incident.
