Shops looted as German cost of living protests turn violent

A wave of post-demonstration violence unfolded across major German urban centers on Saturday, after thousands of young attendees joined largely peaceful daytime rallies organized by grassroots campaign group Gen Z regelt, which translates to “Gen Z Takes Charge”. The day’s scheduled protests were centered on a set of core demands: increased public funding for underresourced school systems, relief from soaring cost of living pressures, a rollback of planned public spending cuts, and an end to proposed compulsory military service across the country.
