In a major crackdown on cross-border drug trafficking, Ireland’s national police force, An Garda Síochána, has uncovered a significant haul of illegal narcotics and cash at Dublin Port, one of the country’s busiest international freight and passenger hubs. The operation, carried out by specialist law enforcement teams on Sunday, resulted in the recovery of approximately 80.5 kilograms of cannabis and 5 kilograms of cocaine, according to official police statements.
Authorities have valued the seized controlled substances at an estimated €1.95 million (equivalent to roughly £1.67 million), alongside nearly €144,000 in suspected criminal proceeds that were also seized during the search. Two individuals — a man and a woman, both in their 30s — were taken into custody at the scene immediately following the seizure.
The pair has since been formally charged with offences linked to the drug trafficking conspiracy, and made their first court appearance at Dublin District Court on Tuesday. No further details about the defendants or the broader scope of the ongoing investigation have been released to the public at this stage, as police continue to pursue lines of inquiry to dismantle the wider drug network connected to the seizure.
