King lands in Rome for historic visit to meet Pope
In a landmark moment for interfaith relations, King Charles III and Queen Camilla have arrived in Rome for a historic state visit to the Vatican. The visit, which began on Wednesday evening with their arrival at Ciampino Airport, marks the first time a British monarch will pray with a pope since the 16th-century Reformation. This symbolic gesture underscores the growing unity between the Church of England and the Catholic Church, a relationship described by the King’s spokesman as a ‘bulwark against those promoting conflict, division, and tyranny.’
The royal couple’s visit comes amid ongoing controversies surrounding Prince Andrew, whose recent loss of titles has dominated headlines. The Palace has been keen to shift focus to this significant diplomatic endeavor, emphasizing its importance in fostering global Christian unity. The King, as the Supreme Governor of the Church of England, has long championed interfaith dialogue, making this visit deeply personal and meaningful.
On Thursday morning, King Charles will meet Pope Leo at the Vatican, followed by a joint service in the Sistine Chapel. This service, held beneath Michelangelo’s iconic ceiling, will bring together Catholic and Anglican clergy, royal and Vatican choirs, and highlight the warm relations between the two denominations. The event will also feature a rare public display of prayer, breaking royal convention to emphasize solidarity.
In another gesture of reconciliation, the King will attend a service at St. Paul’s Outside the Walls, a church with pre-Reformation ties to the English monarchy. Here, he will assume the honorary title of ‘royal confrater,’ further cementing the historic links between the abbey and the British crown.
Cardinal Vincent Nichols, Archbishop of Westminster, noted the King and Pope’s differing approaches but expressed confidence in their ability to find common ground. He also reflected on the spiritual significance of the visit, stating that both leaders would seek divine guidance to navigate the challenges facing the Royal Family.
The Foreign Office hailed the visit as an opportunity to strengthen the UK’s relationship with the Catholic Church, the world’s largest Christian denomination. This trip not only highlights the King’s commitment to interfaith harmony but also reinforces the UK’s role as a bridge between diverse religious communities in an increasingly divided world.

Milan-Cortina 2026 unveils official posters for Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games
The Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games have revealed their official posters, showcasing vibrant and symbolic designs that embody the spirit of the host cities. Created by Italian artists Olimpia Zagnoli and Carolina Altavilla, the posters were unveiled on Wednesday, marking a significant milestone in the lead-up to the global event. Posters have been a cherished tradition since the early 20th century, serving as both artistic expressions and historical artifacts of the Games. Zagnoli’s design, titled ‘Olympic Vision,’ features a central figure peering through glasses shaped like Olympic rings, set against a backdrop of snow-capped mountains. The artist explained that her work reflects Milan’s iconic style and Cortina’s alpine charm while celebrating the unity of athletes and spectators. Altavilla’s untitled poster for the Paralympic Games captures the dynamic energy of all six Paralympic Winter sports, rendered in a striking palette of pinks, blues, and chartreuse. The design includes Milan’s Duomo cathedral in the foreground and incorporates the ‘Agitos,’ Latin for ‘I move,’ as a symbol of Paralympic movement. Large-scale versions of the posters, alongside the official torches, will be displayed at Milan’s Triennale design museum and other venues during the Games. Smaller prints are available for purchase at 35 euros (approximately $41). This follows the organizers’ earlier release of 10 artistic posters by a diverse group of artists, which are also on exhibit at the Triennale.

North Korea has stolen billions in cryptocurrency and tech firm salaries, report says
North Korea has emerged as a formidable player in the realm of cybercrime, leveraging sophisticated hacking techniques to siphon billions of dollars from cryptocurrency exchanges and infiltrate foreign companies through fake identities, according to a comprehensive international report. The 138-page document, published by the Multilateral Sanctions Monitoring Team, reveals that these illicit activities are orchestrated by Pyongyang to finance its nuclear weapons program. The team, comprising the U.S. and 10 allied nations, was established last year to oversee North Korea’s adherence to U.N. sanctions. The report highlights how North Korean hackers have targeted global businesses and organizations with advanced malware, disrupting networks and stealing sensitive data. Additionally, the regime has utilized cryptocurrency for money laundering and military procurement, circumventing international sanctions tied to its nuclear ambitions. Despite its isolation, North Korea has invested heavily in offensive cyber capabilities, now rivaling China and Russia in sophistication. The report underscores the significant threat posed by these cyber operations, which have led to the destruction of physical equipment, loss of private assets, and funding for weapons of mass destruction. Earlier this year, North Korean hackers executed one of the largest crypto heists, stealing $1.5 billion in Ethereum. Furthermore, U.S. authorities have identified thousands of IT workers employed by American companies as North Korean operatives using fake identities to funnel salaries back to the regime. The report concludes that North Korea’s cyber activities are a critical component of its strategy to sustain its government and military programs.

When Sachin Tendulkar rewrote a scene in SRK’s iconic Pepsi advertisement
Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, renowned for his composed presence on the field, also showcased his creative flair off it, as revealed by acclaimed ad filmmaker Prahlad Kakkar. In a recent interview with ANI, Kakkar shared the behind-the-scenes story of one of Pepsi’s most iconic advertisements from 1999, featuring Tendulkar alongside Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan. The ad, which became a cultural phenomenon, was elevated by Tendulkar’s ingenious suggestion to alter the script’s climax. Initially, the scene depicted Tendulkar picking up a bat and heading to the field. However, Tendulkar proposed a twist: instead of taking the bat, he would return to the dressing room with a Pepsi, leaving Shah Rukh Khan’s character to face the unexpected challenge of batting. This change not only added humor but also made the ad more memorable. The commercial, which popularized the slogan ‘Yeh Dil Maange More,’ remains a celebrated example of the synergy between sports and Bollywood, marking a golden era in Indian advertising during the 1990s.

Inclusive India: The world’s largest laboratory of harmony
In a world often divided by identity, India emerges as a beacon of unity, demonstrating that diversity, when embraced with confidence, can be a source of strength rather than conflict. With a population exceeding 1.4 billion, India is a mosaic of over 19,000 dialects, multiple religions, and thousands of festivals, all unified under a single Constitution that guarantees liberty, equality, and fraternity. This is not merely a political slogan but a lived reality, evident in the daily interactions across its streets, classrooms, and places of worship. India’s secular ethos, deeply embedded in its civilizational DNA, predates modern concepts of multiculturalism. From the teachings of Buddha at Sarnath to Emperor Ashoka’s edicts, and from Akbar’s Din-i-Ilahi to Mahatma Gandhi’s pluralism, India’s inclusive spirit has thrived through the ages. Today, as societies worldwide grapple with polarization, India’s example, alongside that of the United Arab Emirates, illustrates how faith, identity, and modern statehood can coexist harmoniously. India’s secularism is not the rejection of religion but the equal respect for all faiths, encapsulated in the principle of Sarva Dharma Sambhava. This approach has ensured that India remains a sanctuary for every religion, from Hinduism and Islam to Christianity, Sikhism, Buddhism, Jainism, Judaism, and Zoroastrianism. The country’s history of sheltering persecuted communities, such as Jews fleeing Roman oppression and Zoroastrians escaping Iran, underscores its enduring commitment to inclusivity. In contemporary India, this tradition persists through initiatives like the Prime Minister’s visits to interfaith sites and joint celebrations of festivals across religions. India’s inclusivity is most visible in everyday life, from Muslim artisans crafting Hindu idols in Kerala to gurdwaras serving langars to people of all faiths in Punjab. Even in the digital age, Indian pluralism adapts creatively, with social media campaigns promoting unity and civic pride. Recent institutional initiatives, such as the Kashi-Tamil Sangamam and the Bharat Mandapam for the G20, further reinforce India’s commitment to diversity. The peaceful coexistence of the new Ram Temple in Ayodhya and adjacent Muslim cultural centers exemplifies India’s ongoing pursuit of harmony. India’s multicultural harmony resonates with the United Arab Emirates, another modern state that has successfully integrated faith, progress, and inclusivity. Both nations, rooted in ancient civilizations, demonstrate that progress need not erase identity. The UAE’s Abrahamic Family House in Abu Dhabi, housing a mosque, church, and synagogue, mirrors India’s inclusive vision. The strong cultural and diplomatic ties between India and the UAE, driven by shared values, highlight the potential of pluralism in fostering global harmony. As nations worldwide confront social divisions, India’s inclusive experiment offers a template for coexistence, proving that true strength lies in the symphony of differences harmonized by respect.

‘Different England taught harsh and familiar lesson by Australia’
In a highly anticipated Women’s World Cup match, Australia emerged victorious against England, continuing their dominance in the tournament. The game, held in Indore, saw Australia’s Annabel Sutherland and Ash Gardner deliver standout performances, guiding their team to a convincing win. Sutherland, already the tournament’s leading wicket-taker, added a crucial 98 runs to her tally, while Gardner scored a rapid 69, ensuring Australia’s triumph with nearly 10 overs to spare. England, despite showing significant improvement since their last encounter with Australia, fell short in key moments. Amy Jones and Tammy Beaumont provided a strong start, but England’s middle order struggled to maintain the momentum. Alice Capsey and Charlie Dean contributed valuable runs, but it wasn’t enough to challenge Australia’s depth and resilience. This defeat marks England’s first loss in the tournament, serving as a stark reminder of the level of perfection required to topple a team of Australia’s caliber. The match highlighted Australia’s ability to adapt and thrive under pressure, with multiple players stepping up to secure the win. England, on the other hand, will need to address their middle-order inconsistencies if they hope to compete at the highest level. The result underscores Australia’s status as the team to beat in women’s cricket, while England must regroup and refine their strategies as the World Cup progresses.

UAE’s Emaar chief Alabbar says ‘can raise $400 billion in a week’ to fix US housing woes
Mohammed Alabbar, the founder of UAE-based Emaar Properties, has unveiled an ambitious plan to address the escalating housing crisis in the United States. Speaking at the Reuters NEXT Gulf Summit in Abu Dhabi, Alabbar asserted that he could raise $400 billion within a week to tackle the shortage of nearly five million housing units in the US. He emphasized that the crisis, if left unresolved, could have catastrophic consequences for the American economy. Alabbar proposed collaborating with major US players to not only alleviate the housing deficit but also generate substantial revenue for the government. He highlighted that solving the housing issue could reduce inflation by 50%, create 20 million jobs, and generate $2.5 trillion in tax revenue over a decade. Despite his bold vision, Alabbar clarified that Emaar is not currently in talks with any American companies to enter the US real estate market. Shifting focus to the UAE, he expressed optimism about the local property market, predicting a balance in prices by 2026-2027 due to increased supply. Alabbar also critiqued the European economy, urging EU leaders to address their economic challenges to stem the flow of migrants to the UAE. He praised the UAE’s leadership and its multicultural harmony. Additionally, Alabbar revealed Emaar’s interest in expanding into markets like India, China, and Europe, leveraging the company’s strong financial position and strategic partnerships. He cited the overwhelming success of Emaar’s Red Sea development in Egypt as evidence of the company’s global potential.
